SUCCESS STORY OF BANANA PLANTATION AT UKHRA G.P.UNDER NREGS
ANDAL DEVELOPMENT BLOCK
Introduction – NREGS is an outstanding programme which has been launched in Andal Block in the financial year of 2007-08, in order to give the rural people an opportunity for 100 days’ job as well as for the development of the rural area. In a word this programme has been launched for bringing a change in the Socio- Economic structure.
There were so many tanks ponds, irrigation channel, roads to be re-executed, renovated or to be repaired in order to facilitate the rural people for bringing a change in the socio-economic structure in the society and to make permanent assets in the locality. As it was labour oriented programme, the local people were involved in it with a great enthusiasm.

UTILITY OF THE SCHEME:-
Ukhra Gram Panchayat is a part of Andal Block situated at 12 K.M. distance towards north of Andal Block. Through NREGA works, people especially SGSY Self Help Groups of interior villages of Ukhra Gram Panchyat are benefitted. This is a good success of Convergence under NREGS at Ukhra Gram Panchayat, one more step taken to change the socio-economic conditions of the SHGs and to increase women empowerment and as such this plantation project has been taken up and the Banana Garden has been handed over to “Ekata Self Help Group” of Ukhra G.P. to promote their activities and financial capabilities. The SHG are managing the Cultivation now and has been regularly getting the sale proceeds.
OBJECTS & BENEFIT OF THE SCHEME:-
I ) Involvement of local poorer people in the work as labourers to earn labour wages which will give them financial help to maintain their daily livelihood.
II ) Developing socio-economic condition of the poorer section of the people as well as common people of connected areas.
III ) Local Self Help Groups has been benefitted and upgraded through lease of the scheme.
IV ) Surrounding areas will be Pollution Free.
