The NREGS Success Story Competition was held on 25-11-09 at BDA Conference Hall at the Office of the District Magistrate, Burdwan. 26 out of 31 Blocks participated. The Joint BDO, Assistant Programme Officer, Computer Assistants of all 31 Blocks and Technical Assistants BIO, DEO of some Blocks participated.

Kalna-I block secured the Top position where they presented the Scheme of Development of Ground of Kalna Sub-Divisional Hospital through Land Development, Excavation of Pond & Frout Plantation. They also started convergence by leasing out the pond for pisciculture to an SGSY Self Help Group.

Salanpur block got second position for Scheme at Kallya Gram Panchayat, where convergence with fishery, duckery and social forestry was executed.

Kanksa got third position where huge pond was excavated for preservation of rainwater and utilisation of the water for the purpose of Irrigation and pisciculture.

Special Award was given to Memari-I Block where in a congested urbanized locality, a Scheme was executed –clearing water hayacinth in a pond at Nimo-I Gram Panchayat, using these garbage as compost pit at houses and thereby developing social forestry by involving Self Help Group.
